Have I told you lately that I love you?
Have I told you there is no one else above you?
Have I told you there is no one else above you?
These are the first two lines to a lovely and romantic song. They got stuck in my head the other day, and after singing them again, and again, I thought what a wonderful praise to God these lines would be. Instead they speak to a man that has his priorities out of order.
Whenever we put anyone over God we have sinned, and what naturally results is sinful. At times we have elevated people and worshiped them over God. Pharaoh, Caesar, and Nebuchadnezzar are among some blatant examples of that. Other times it is much more subtle…
Men will do that with their women. They may even say they worship her. I would contend this is exactly what Adam did when he partook of the forbidden fruit. After all he was not deceived as Eve was.
1Ti 2:14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.
Adam willfully disobeyed God to follow his wife; as a result he broke the only law given to him. By placing her above God he was easily able to disobey His commands.
And the rest is His story…
The Bible is filled with similar stories, of men with their priorities out of whack. Men who worshiped the created over the creator, that ultimately leads to their destruction.
It is important for Christian men as Christians and Patriarchs in our families that we keep God in the right place in our lives.
-Amen
Mat 4:10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
